Director of Research, Cyber Center of Excellence
Dr. Rusty Baldwin is the Director of Research for the Cyber Center of Excellence at Riverside Research. In this role, Dr. Baldwin conducts and directs cyber research and development activities. He is responsible for strategic research thrusts, preparing grants, and laboratory facilities.
Before joining Riverside Research in January 2014, Dr. Baldwin served 23 years in the United States Air Force as a military member, and 9 years in civil service. Most recently, Dr. Baldwin was a Professor of Computer Engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and Research Director for the Air Force Cyberspace Technical Center of Excellence where he published over 100 journal and conference papers in various areas of cyberspace security. He also served as co-inventor on six patents and seven Air Force inventions and supervised the research of master’s and doctoral students while at AFIT. His research interests include computer communication networks, embedded systems, wireless networking, computer security, side channel analysis, reconfigurable computing systems, and military medical networks. Dr. Baldwin has a particular interest in Electronic Health Records, Health Informatics, and Application Performance Analysis. While an AFIT faculty member, he served as a consultant for the Interagency Program Office for integrated Electronic Health Record and led research efforts aimed at resolving application performance issues for the Department of Veteran Affairs. Dr. Baldwin is currently a member of the Sinclair Community College Computer Information System Advisory Board.
Dr. Baldwin received his BS in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University, MS in Computer Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
