Trustee since 2007
Brigadier General James M. Mungenast, USAF (Retired), became a Trustee of Riverside Research in April 2007, following nine months as a Consultant to the Board. General Mungenast received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Huntingdon College, Montgomery Alabama in 1971; Masters of Arts in Industrial Relations from the University of Alabama in 1973; and Juris Doctor from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America in 1979. He served on active duty in the Air Force from 1973 to 1975 and in the AF Reserve until his retirement in 2007, from his position as the Mobilization Assistant (MA) to the Director, Defense Intelligence Agency. Prior positions in the AF Reserve include MA to the Intelligence Directorate (J2), US European Command (where he was activated for Operation Iraqi Freedom and also served as Acting J2); Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) to the Commander, National Air and Space Intelligence Center; and IMA to the Director, Missile and Space Intelligence Center.
Jim’s civilian career included 26 years at the Tennessee Valley Authority, Knoxville Tennessee, retiring as a Senior Attorney in January 2005. His primary areas of expertise included labor and employment law, compensation, and administrative law. Prior to his employment with TVA, he served in human resource positions with the Defense Logistics Agency, Patent and Trademark Office, and the General Accounting Office.
He is the State President of the Air Force Association; Vice Chair of the Department of Defense’s Tennessee Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; and active in several other military, alumni, church, and veteran activities. He lives near Knoxville Tennessee with his wife Jeanie.
