Mr. Alfred Grasso is a technical leader and strategist supporting a multitude of DoD missions over his 40-year career. He is the former President and CEO of The MITRE Corporation, a not-for-profit company operating federally funded research and development organizations. He held the position from 2006-2017, during which he led the corporation’s overall strategic and business operations, overseeing growth to a revenue of $1.6B, 8,200 employees, two major campuses, and over 60 domestic and international locations. Mr. Grasso continues to support the organization by serving as a trustee and consultant.
Mr. Grasso holds several accolades, publications, and has an extensive board membership background. He was elected to the Board of Directors of NetScout Systems, Inc., in 2018. NetScout Systems, Inc., a publicly traded company, provides operational intelligence and performance analytics for service assurance and cyber security solutions. He is an appointed member of the Defense Science Board and a former member of the Army Science Board. He is serving a 3-year term as a member of the National Academy of Science Government, University and Industry Research Roundtable where he was elected co-chair in 2018. Mr. Grasso was elected to Virginia Tech’s Hume Center Advisory Board in 2018 and he is a Permanent Director and Executive Committee member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) International’s Board of Directors and he served as Chairman from 2012 to 2014 and vice chairman from 2010 to 2012.
He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master's degree in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is also a graduate of the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.
