Background and Current Work
Dr. Ashwin Fisher is the Director of Optics and Photonics Research. While at Riverside Research, he developed a research program at our New York Research Office initially focused on biomedical optics and photoacoustics for early detection and diagnosis of diseases. More recently, he transitioned our optics laboratory program to our Open Innovation Center in Dayton, OH, and has diversified its portfolio. His research interests encompass photonic-terahertz (THz) imaging and sensing for telecommunications and space applications, low-cost optical and haptic wearables for defense applications, computational and multi-scale modeling of optics problems, dynamic optical metamaterials, and multi-modal optical sensing methodologies.
Education, Awards, and Recognition
Dr. Fisher received a PhD in mechanical engineering from Boston University (BU). Some key aspects of his PhD work were novel techniques for optical metrology, nanotechnology, and non-destructive testing. He continued at BU as research faculty, focusing on plasma research in dielectric breakdown of materials for renewable sources of energy. During his tenure at BU, he also developed various novel sensing and imaging modalities for space and robotic applications.
