Riverside Research Hosts Exelis VIS Training Session: ENVI for Spectral PED

Dayton, Ohio – Riverside Research partnered with Exelis Visual Information Solutions (Exelis VIS) to host a three-day training session entitled “ENVI for Spectral PED,” the first-ever ENVI training specifically designed to address the unique requirements of Spectral Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED). Commonly used by remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) professionals at all levels and with varied backgrounds, ENVI is the premier software application and industry standard for easily processing and analyzing geospatial imagery. This training event drew participation from 18 Dayton-area intelligence professionals, representing both government and contractor organizations, who support the National Air and Space intelligence Center (NASIC).

“NASIC has an analytic workforce that is second to none and therefore deserves tools and training that is also second to none,” said Michael Nelson, Director of Intelligence Operations at Riverside Research. “We were proud to team with Exelis and bring these two factors together to create synergy for our NASIC customer.”

Held at the Riverside Research facility in Beavercreek, Ohio, from 13-15 November, ENVI for Spectral PED presented the core skills needed for understanding how to analyze and exploit spectral data as part of a typical PED cell. Students were given the opportunity to work hands-on with relevant hyperspectral data sets, promoting their understanding of the utility of spectral data for the detection of select targets.

“Our decision to partner with Riverside Research on this training was driven by their proven reputation for objective, expert technical support to the NASIC customer,” said Tom Jones, Lead for the Exelis VIS Defense and Intelligence team responsible for supporting the NASIC government customer and contractor community. “Riverside Research has had great success utilizing the ENVI tools for fast and accurate target detection and identification. We look forward to continuing our partnership through a joint commitment to raise the standard of excellence in the analysis, exploitation, and dissemination of Geospatial Intelligence.”
