Riverside Research to Issue Continuing Education Units at GEOINT Community Week

Reston, Virginia – The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) tradecraft, will hold its annual GEOINT Community Week in the Northern Virginia region on May 20-23, this time with a focus on training and professional development.

“USGIF has done a great job of bringing together several world-class organizations to address the most relevant topics and biggest challenges facing the GEOINT community today,” said Shawn Kalis, Director of Education and Training at Riverside Research and member of the USGIF Academic Advisory Board and Tradecraft and Professional Development Committee. “We are honored to present condensed courses in Activity Based Intelligence (ABI) and Full Motion Video (FMV) as part of the distinguished Tech Day lineup.”

USGIF Technology Day will take place on Thursday, May 23, featuring nearly 20 professional development, education, and training offerings, along with an array of technology exhibits at the Hyatt Regency Reston. Those attending Riverside Research’s ABI and FMV sessions will be eligible to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). Riverside Research, a nationally recognized leader in the development, presentation, and maintenance of DOD-approved training and education courses, has been an Authorized Provider of IACET CEUs since 2008.

Shane Cuddson, an instructional systems designer at Riverside Research with more than 20 years of diverse military and civilian experience, will lead both sessions described below.

Fundamentals of Activity Based Intelligence
Morning Session: 8:30-11:30

Description: ABI shifts the focus from object-based intelligence to analysis and subsequent collection focused on activities and transactions associated with an entity, population, or area of interest. ABI methodology is fueled by the need to process “big data” generated from persistent collection of activity and transactions over a broad area from multiple sources. ABI analysts leverage big data to discover trends and patterns of activity when they intersect, enabling the identification of unknown unknowns.

Fundamentals of Full Motion Video
Afternoon Session: 1:00-4:00

Description: FMV intelligence leverages imagery, geographic information science, and technology with analytical tradecraft to develop actionable intelligence that supports military as well as civilian missions to include national security, homeland security, and disaster response. Designed for people with little to no knowledge in FMV, this course supports the Intelligence Community and global learning initiatives.
