This event presented an opportunity for professionals who work in and around a classified environment doing personnel, facility, or information technology (IT) security in the National Capitol Region to network with colleagues and learn about several industry hot topics.

The event offered six briefing topics presented by experienced Defense Security Service (DSS), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and security industry personnel. Christine Beauregard, a security professional with over 32 years of experience, spoke about security curriculum and her role leading the Industrial Security Curriculum at the DSS Center for Development of Security Excellence. DSS representatives Robin Nickel and Emily Helstowski discussed DSS auditing and enhancements. Mike Harris (Defense & Intelligence Consulting, LLC) presented a briefing about understanding Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS) jargon. William Laakso and Matthew Letnaunchyn, representing the Defense Cyber Crime Center’s Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Collaborative Information Sharing Environment, discussed DIB cybersecurity. Mike Talbot (FBI Counterintelligence) and Ryan Rivera (DSS Counterintelligence) presented a briefing about the risk of economic espionage, which featured The Company Man: Protecting America’s Secrets, a threat awareness film released by the FBI in spring 2013. Mitchell Kanefsky (FBI Counterintelligence) also spoke about espionage, featuring 2001’s high-profile Robert Hanssen case and providing a rare chance to hear case details straight from an FBI agent.

The Riverside Research security team (L to R: Jim Whitten, Christina Hayashida, Heather Davis-Pickett, Tracey Brinckman, and Michelle Dawson) was also on hand to answer questions about the company’s automated badging system, secure facility construction, and secure web fingerprint transmission.

Riverside Research appreciates the support of the aforementioned professionals in making Security Industry Day a success.

“Riverside Research was pleased to host Security Industry Day,” said Riverside Research Director of Security and Facilities Jim Whitten. “The smaller venue and pool of attendees allowed everyone to spend more time with the guest speakers and get immediate answers to their questions.”
