USGIF awarded the new $10,000 scholarship to Anne Aryadne Bennett of the University of Southern California (USC) this fall. Anne received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from California Polytechnic State University and will use the scholarship toward her graduate studies in astronautical engineering at USC.

“Being the first recipient of the Ken Miller Scholarship is very exciting and such a great honor,” Bennett said. “It will allow me to complete my master’s degree in astronautical engineering so that I can hit the ground running in a PhD program in aerospace engineering.”

Bennett ultimately wants to pursue a career in research and development at a national lab or research institute, and contribute to the innovation of the nation’s space capabilities. She is currently an aerospace systems engineer at Orbital ATK and hopes her diverse engineering background will help her become successful in a fast-paced research and development environment upon finishing her coursework.

The Ken Miller Scholarship for Advanced Remote Sensing Applications, named after a founding father of measurement and signatures intelligence (MASINT), is funded by proceeds from the Riverside Research-authored textbook, The Phenomenology of Intelligence-focused Remote Sensing. Riverside Research and USGIF will award the next scholarship recipient in fall 2017.
