The new, supplemental cyber education program, called C-IGNITE (Cyber – Institutions Growing National Intellectual Talent and Experience), combines national, state, local, and industry resources to create an enhanced educational experience.

The program will begin June 2014 and offers a select group of Clark State undergraduate students a unique opportunity to gain exposure to topics like computer networking, digital forensics, network offense and defense, wireless cryptology, and critical infrastructure through a ten-week academic and internship experience. Planned activities include conceptual learning, hands-on laboratory exercises, and professional mentorship. Formal academic instruction is to occur at Clark State, but students will receive corresponding cyberspace lessons at Riverside Research and perform practical applications during internship hours with the company’s Cyber Research Lab and other local businesses. To culminate this program, students will complete a three-day offensive or defensive cyber operations capstone event at Riverside Research.

C-IGNITE participants will receive the tutelage of Dr. Harold J. Arata III, Dr. Rusty Baldwin, Dr. Adam Bryant, and Mr. Brian Hale of Riverside Research; Professors Greg Teets and Dan Heighton, and adjunct professors Ms. Cathryn Balas and Mr. Dale Rude of Clark State. Students will also earn college credit for successfully completed Clark State courses during the program.

The program aims to advance the skills and knowledge of area science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) students. Through this and other strategic outreach partnerships, such as CyberPatriot, Riverside Research is at the forefront of Dayton’s STEM development and positioned to nurture future technical talent nationwide.

“By sponsoring the C-IGNITE program and partnering with local colleges and universities, we can work together to develop the best cyber talent in the nation, keeping America strong, safe, and free,” said Dr. Harold J. Arata III, Director of Riverside Research’s Cyber Center of Excellence.

The C-IGNITE education program furthers Riverside Research’s STEM advancement initiatives and provides an opportunity to educate and train Dayton’s future STEM workforce directly. Plans are underway to continue the program annually and offer it to other area colleges and universities in the future.
