Second Ken Miller Scholarship Recipient
WASHINGTON, DC – Riverside Research—a not-for-profit company primarily serving the Department of Defense and the intelligence community, continues their partnership with the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) to offer the Ken Miller Scholarship for Advanced Remote Sensing Applications.
This is the second consecutive year Riverside Research and USGIF have offered the scholarship, and it provides financial support to students engaged in the study of defense or intelligence-related disciplines.
The $10,000 scholarship was awarded to Andrew Knight of the University of Georgia (UGA) for the 2017-2018 school year. Andrew received a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University in geographic science and will use the scholarship toward his master’s degree in geography at UGA. Andrew’s research goals include applying remote sensing methods to humanitarian issues. For his thesis, he is studying the intersection of machine learning and unmanned aerial systems. He currently works as a research assistant at UGA’s Center for Geospatial Research.
“Receiving the Ken Miller Scholarship for Advanced Remote Sensing was huge for me, and I am incredibly grateful to Riverside Research and USGIF,” said Andrew. “The scholarship has allowed me to enhance the quality of my research by providing funding for specific resources such as a remote sensing software.”
The Ken Miller Scholarship for Advanced Remote Sensing Applications, named after a founding father of measurement and signatures intelligence (MASINT), is funded by proceeds from the Riverside Research-authored textbook, The Phenomenology of Intelligence-focused Remote Sensing. Riverside Research and USGIF will award the next scholarship recipient in fall 2018.
