From the Lab to the Field: Asymmetric Core Based Kernel

Curious about the possibility of an alternative operating system design? Dr. Scott Brookes, Principal Scientist at Riverside Research, describes how his team is researching asymmetric core-based kernel operating systems in this video in the From the Lab to the Field series.

“We’re looking to make that operating system more secure,” Brookes explains. Because the OS is “one of the most trusted pieces of software on the platform, it holds the secrets to all the applications. Because it maintains the secrets of every application, a bad attacker can compromise the system, then they can capture the secrets from every other program.”

The team is creating a separation between the applications and the operating system as a solution to this issue.
