Dr. Lisa Porter was elected to join the Riverside Research Board of Trustees in August 2020. She received her bachelor’s in nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a doctorate in applied physics from Stanford University.
Having accumulated over 20 years of experience with technology-based businesses supporting both national security and commercial customers, Dr. Porter has held both technical and leadership roles. She began working at MIT in 1994 and continued to build her career at the Institute for Defense Analyses, Logos Technologies, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), Teledyne Scientific & Imaging, and In-Q-Tel. Notably, she was the first Director of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) in the ODNI and was the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (DUSD (R&E)). As the former DUSD(R&E), she was responsible for the research, development, and prototyping activities across the Department of Defense enterprise.
Dr. Porter is currently the Co-President and Co-Founder of LogiQ, Inc., where she provides high-end management, scientific, and technical consulting services.
The functional electromagnetic materials independent research and development (IRAD) efforts at Riverside Research result in big ideas about small components. The researchers on this team examine the materials at the basis of every hardware component or device in use, reimagining how we can use alternative materials or new materials to help the device function more safely, securely, and cost effectively – all while taking up less physical space.
